E. coli Hazards that Could Lurk in Foods or Water Damaged Properties Discussed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about important environmental, health & safety (EHS) issues.

PHOENIX - Sept. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video.  Their newest production discusses Escherichia coli (E. coli) as both a possible food pathogen and a contaminant that could be found in any property that has suffered a flood or sanitary sewer overflow (SSO).

E. coli are a large group of bacteria found in the environment and the intestines of people and animals.  Although most strains of E. coli are harmless and some are an important part of a healthy intestinal tract, others can cause severe illnesses. Some strains can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness and pneumonia, as well as other conditions.

“The types of E. coli that can cause sickness can be transmitted through contaminated water or food, and through contact with infected animals, people or contaminated surfaces,” said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network. “If a property has experienced a sanitary sewer overflow or flooding, both pathogenic types of E. coli and strains that are not harmful to people could be in the property.  In addition to E. coli, floodwaters and sewage could contain other intestinal bacteria such as Salmonella and Shigella.  We hope this new video helps to shed some light on this topic.”

This educational video was sponsored by a number of organizations and leading industry professionals that help to protect the public’s health. Sponsors include: EMSL Analytical, LA Testing, Clark Seif Clark, Zimmetry Environmental, ProcessMAP and Healthy Indoors magazine to name a few.
