Bedales hosts Petersfield small-schools athletics challenge

PETERSFIELD, U.K. - Sept. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Bedales School hosted the debut of the Petersfield small schools inter-school athletics challenge this summer, with children from years 5 and 6 participating from Buriton Primary, East Meon Primary, Langrish Primary, Sheet Primary and Steep Primary Schools.

The children participated in a series of running, long-jump, javelin and shot-put events on a very sunny day on the sports pitches on the Bedales estate.

The first event of its kind was devised by Chris Baker from Steep Primary School along with an organising committee. Bedales Prep students on the Sports Leaders Programme, a certificated assessment process that recognises skills in sports leadership, assisted with the event helping each element of the event run smoothly.

Commenting on the day, event organiser, Chris Baker said, “The day was a great success and the children very much enjoyed coming together and participating in a variety of athletic sports and cheering on their school. We hope to continue this event on an annual basis. It was great to be able to hold it at Bedales so that we could run several athletics challenges simultaneously, which provided a brilliant competitive atmosphere.”

Bedales Head of Sport, Sonia Cartwright, added, “It was an absolute pleasure to host an event and to see so many children enjoying their athletics. We look forward to supporting the athletics challenge for many years to come.”
