Boulder Concert Band Selects 2014-2015 Conductor

BOULDER, Colo. - Sept. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- The Boulder Concert Band (http://www.boulderband.org/), a nonprofit, premier adult community band, today announced that William Kinne has been selected as its conductor and musical director for the 2014-2015 concert season.

For the last two summers, Kinne has served as a guest conductor during the band’s summer parks concert series, sponsored by Boulder Parks and Recreation.  Currently, Kinne, who plays clarinet, is pursuing his doctorate in music at the University of Colorado.  Prior to moving to Colorado, he was the high school band director in Concord, New Hampshire. He earned his Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in 2011.

"I am delighted to lead the 2014-2015 concert season with the Boulder Concert Band,” commented Kinne. “This eclectic ensemble draws from the vast experience of its membership. Our musicians volunteer their time, talent, and resources to make the Boulder Concert Band an indispensable part of the cultural fabric that makes Boulder one-of-a-kind. This concert season will offer music from toe tapping classics to contemporary works by emerging composers.”

The Boulder Concert Band’s new season will kick off on October 18th at 7:00pm at Platt Middle School.  “October in Colorado: Bugs, Spooks and Snowmen,” will be a family concert, with plenty of surprises.

“Our performance will feature Roger Cichy’s Bugs, a set of miniature insect portraits including the enchanting dragonfly to the industrious army ant,” said Kinne.  “The classic tale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow will send shivers down your spine and Disney’s Frozen will have every child singing along. We hope our community will join us for the first concert of what promises to be an unforgettable year of music."

The first records of a performing band in the city of Boulder date back to 1870. The Boulder Concert Band as we know it today was reorganized in 1976 by the late Hugh McMillen, former Director of Bands at the University of Colorado. The current organization has over 70 volunteer musicians from the business, professional, and educational communities in Boulder County and the Denver metro area.
