New book by, Susan Griner "The Cemetery Sleeper"

Will Keep Young Adults Reading Under The Covers With Flashlights

Sept. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Combining a quirky cast of characters set in a seemingly quiet Southern town, author Susan Griner creates the perfect thriller along with supernatural suspense in her new novel, The Cemetery Sleeper.

The Cemetery Sleeper
is set in a sleepy southern town called Mabry.  Freddy is a pre-teen boy spending the summer with his Aunt Teri and cousin Emily while his father is out of town.  Aunt Teri’s house is creaky and old, with a cemetery in the backyard.  Soon Freddy’s haunted in his dreams by the ghost of one of the residents, Trump.  Freddy enlists the help of his skeptical cousin Emily and white-haired friend Matt to help him fight off the ghost.  During the journey, he learns about his family, fears, and how to deal with the loss of his own mother.

“Like Emily, I tend to be doubtful about the existence of ghosts,” said Susan Griner during a recent interview, “But I do think people can create ghosts of a sort when they are haunted by past sorrows that they can’t let go of, like Aunt Teri’s character in the book.”  She likes reading about the supernatural beliefs of other cultures, providing her with a foundation to her novel.

The setting of Mabry is itself a character in The Cemetery Sleeper.  The small southern town has more ghosts and spirits than living residents.  Griner’s writing make Mabry seem harmless on the surface, but full of secrets and phantoms.  “Many of the details I included in my depiction of the town of Mabry are based on the small town in Tennessee where I was raised,” said the author.  “I always felt like an observer as a kid and all that I absorbed about the south comes through in my writing. There’s plenty to write about–from the quirky characters I’ve met and the good-hearted people I have known to the traditions and history of the area.”

The Cemetery Sleeper is available through Saguaro Books and on Amazon as an e-book.  Further information can be viewed on the author’s website: www.saguarobooks.com
