Education System Must Catch Up With IT World Says Technology Expert

RUNCORN, U.K. - Sept. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Britain’s education system needs to catch up with fast moving developments in the ever growing Information Technology industry if it is to produce suitable candidates for careers in the sector, said Stephen Powell, Development Director with Cheshire-based IT company d3t.

The key skill of ‘programming’ has only very recently started to be included as part of the GCSE course for ‘Computer Science’ in England despite the fact that it is a basic but essential tool for a wide range of positions within the IT industry, added Mr Powell speaking from his office at the Heath  Business and Technical Park in Runcorn.

“However our industry is continually changing and developing as it moves forward, so it is vitally important that those individuals who educate our young people are fully aware of the host of new developments coming in and the new skills required from employees.

“We need to be in constant communication to ensure the education and training of would-be employees is as relevant as possible.”

Mr Powell and his c o-director Jamie Campbell, head up an eight strong team of engineers at their Runcorn HQ which they are hoping to increase to ten by the end of the year. However, they are acutely aware of the need to find the right people with the key skills required to ensure their clients receive a superlative service.

“When recruiting for junior positions within d3t we tend to employ graduates or candidates with experience in key areas from gaming to business software and embedded systems,” said Mr Powell, who has spent 23 years in the IT industry.

“But it would be helpful to know that all students, whatever their career preferences, had a good grounding in IT because Information Technology plays a role in virtually all businesses in the 21st century. The education sector needs to be flexible enough to adapt to meet the needs of all.

“I would be happy to talk to politicians and educators because bright people are always very much in demand in my industry. Good programmers in particular are in short supply and we need to do all we can to help talented individuals take advantage of some superb career opportunities.”

Fast-growing d3t recently broke through the £750,000 turnover mark as it approached its third birthday thanks to a client base that includes a host of British and overseas customers.
