The Ice Bucket Challenge success story

The phenomenal success of the coldest charity challenge yet. Well done fb

PORTSMOUTH, U.K. - Aug. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- The Ice Bucket Challenge has been a massive success and not just in the amount of funds raised, but in the fact that this challenge has single headedly raised awareness of ALS. Although I’m not sure that everyone who had dumped a bucket of iced water over themselves know what ALS stands for, but the success of this challenge has changed the way in which charity campaigns will be run in the future.

If we had to sit down and measure the success of this campaign and what made it a sensation, then we don’t have to look very far as Facebook have played a very integral part in the success. The reach that fb has had globally is impressive. The Ice Bucket challenge also touched on that most basic of human traits, an overwhelming joy of nominating a friend to suffer under a bucket of freezing cold water.

So what’s the next challenge going to be? We all love a challenge that is as bazar as it is funny, so come up with the next thing and make it happen. The beauty about the Ice Bucket challenge is that it is something for all to do. You don’t need to be able to run 24 miles for charity or cycle to the Amazon and back either. All you need is a webcam and a bucket. Job done.  If a bucket of cold water is what’s needed to make us sit up and pay attention to the suffering that is going on around the world, then bring it on.

For those who don’t know, the initials ALS stand for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known Lou Gehrig disease. ALS is a disease that attacks nerve cells in both the brain and the spinal cord leading to the progressive degeneration of muscles. This is a deliberating disease that leads to the loss of control of voluntary muscle movement and eventual paralysation and death.

The goal of the Ice Bucket challenge is not just to raise awareness of the disease, but also raise needed funds for research, treatment and care of all sufferers of ALS. The support network set up also works hard to help the families of those effected. A well organised and thanks to you a well funded one that is doing critical work to eradicate this cruel disease.

Since the start of the year your bucket exploits and the ALS charity has raised close to $90million in Ice Bucket donations worldwide. And all it took was half the Facebook population happily socked and nominated. It’s a cause that is worthy of the great support, but there are others out there that need just as much help and support.

Giving is something that we should do if we can. The method of how we raise awareness differs, but the thought and support that comes with it makes as much of a difference as the actual funding does. Keep up the great work people and thanks for caring.
