BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Aug. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- The LuMind Foundation will be the beneficiary of a charity golf outing hosted by Hayes PMC in Belleville, Illinois. The full-day golf event will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at The Orchards Golf Club in Belleville, Illinois.

Hayes PMC a dedicated provider of plant maintenance and service for the power industry, and like their parent company Hayes Mechanical, both are long-time supporters of the LuMind Foundation. Hayes Mechanical CEO and President Terry AnCel serves on the Board of the LuMind Foundation, which raises money to fund cognition research for people with Down syndrome, including research on Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome that may benefit a wider community.

“If we can raise the cognition of a person with Down syndrome by 15%, it can make such a difference in that person’s life. Improved cognition can mean attending the public school near home, making friends more easily, going to college and getting a job – offering opportunities for more independence,” said AnCel, the father of a daughter with Down syndrome. “We’ve enjoyed tremendous support from our friends, colleagues, and vendors for many years near our Chicago office, with people returning year after year and supporting our cause. We’re happy that this year three Hayes locations, including Hayes PMC near St. Louis in Belleville, agreed to also host charity events.”

The golf outing begins with registration and lunch at 11:00 am followed by a shotgun start at 12:00pm and ends with awards and dinner at 5:00 pm. Participants will be able to enter various competitions held in conjunction with the tournament for prizes, including longest drive and closest to the pin contests. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are still available on the event website (https://lumindfoundation.org/pages/get-involved/hayes-mic...). The final Hayes event will be on September 29 in Omaha, Nebraska. The first two Hayes events have raised more than $200,000 for LuMind Foundation so far this year.

“In the past ten years, we’ve seen incredible breakthroughs in Down syndrome cognition research, thanks to generous individuals and organizations like Hayes,” said LuMind foundation’s Executive Director Carolyn Cronin. “We appreciate the long-term commitment Hayes has made and their golf events are highly anticipated outings that combine fun with fundraising for our organization.”

Founded in 2004, the LuMind Foundation is focused on funding research to improve cognition for people with Down syndrome. Developing a private funding pipeline to supplement the limited public monies devoted to this area of study, the LuMind Foundation has supported research that so far has led to nine drug targets and four clinical trials, including supporting investigations of early onset Alzheimer’s disease prevalent in people with Down syndrome.
