Aug. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- David Caminal, aged 47, from Barcelona had flown to the UK in order to work on the production of a specialist commercial.

During a break in filming, on Saturday 19th July, around 12 noon, David visited The New Conservatory Bar, in Central Leeds in order to have a beer with friends. David was offered a taster beer, as he was not familiar with the different brands and was served what is believed to have been caustic soda. It is understood that cleaning of the systems at the bar was taking place and that this strong cleaning fluid had inadvertently been served with the beer.

David drank some of the beer but it was immediately clear that something dreadful had happened. An ambulance took him straight to Leeds General Infirmary and he was in the Intensive Care Unit for a number of days. There were serious concerns at this point that he may not survive.

David remained in Leeds hospital for 3 weeks under very close observation. It is clear that he has suffered devastating internal injuries which will require a great deal of treatment including most probably oesophageal surgery in the future. His brother, girlfriend and sister flew over to be with him. The family speak very little English.

Fieldfisher solicitors, London have been asked by the family to investigate the case for David. Funds were obtained very quickly to air ambulance David back to Barcelona to be with his family, girlfriend and daughter. He remains in hospital under the care of Spanish medics.

It is understood that Health and Safety at Leeds City Council are conducting a full and thorough investigation.

Jill Greenfield, David's solicitor says

"The circumstances are really very shocking. It's unbelievable that this could happen. He simply went for a beer with friends but now potentially faces lifelong complications. Whilst our investigations are at an early stage it is apparent to everyone that something went very tragically wrong. We are looking to ensure that David gets as much help as possible with his medical treatment to make the best possible recovery."

Daniel, David's brother commented

"This has been a devastating ordeal and has been very hard for the whole family. We were not even sure in the initial stages if David would survive."
