SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Aug. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc. unveiled two brand-new national scholarships at this year's National Leadership Development Conference at the University of California, Los Angeles.

These scholarships are the NAK National Scholarship and the Arreola Family Award – the first national scholarships in NAK's 26-year of history.

"This is truly a momentous occasion in the history of this fraternity," NAK National President Eric Baca said. "We're extremely proud and excited to offer these national scholarships to our brotherhood of more than 2,500...they are just the beginning of more grants and aid we hope to offer our brethren in the near future."

The NAK National Scholarship will be awarded this year to deserving NAK brothers who uphold our pillars of Academics, Brotherhood, and Culture. An emphasis will be placed on those brothers who have demonstrated either strong financial need (such as being undocumented) and/or active involvement within NAK and their community. One to two $500 scholarships of these kind will be awarded.

The Arreola Family Award is a gift made by the Arreola Family in honor of Marin F. Arreola and Carmen H. Arreola; the Grandfather and Grandmother of NAK Founding Fathers Antonio V. Arreola, Marin A. Arreola, Nicolas V. Arreola, Gabriel Z. Arreola, Enrique V. Arreola, Ricardo A. Arreola and NAK Brothers Manuel Z. Arreola, Alejandro V. Arreola, and Agustin V. Arreola.

The Arreola Family Award will be awarded to one to two students during the upcoming academic year. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship. The award will be given to brothers that uphold Nu Alpha Kappa’s pillars of Academics, Brotherhood, and Culture. Consideration will be given to brothers ooprc who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and community volunteerism. In addition, special attention will be given to those brothers that are from a rural community or have a family history in farming and/or are actively involved in NAK’s Executive Board.

The deadline to apply for NAK brothers is midnight Monday, September 15, 2014.

"These scholarships will go a long way in helping our brothers not only pay for schooling, but also motivate them to give back sometime in the future," NAK Alumni Association Chief Executive Office Angel Barajas said. "Our fraternity is beautiful in that way – good deeds today reciprocate themselves tomorrow. This is a very proud time for NAK, and we're incredibly thankful to all of our supporters."
