Hamanasi Adventure and Dive Resort Receives Sustainable Leader Award

HOPKINS, Belize - Aug. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Guido Bauer, CEO of Green Globe, recently presented Hamanasi Adventure and Dive Resort with a Sustainable Leader Award in recognition of its continued investment and effort in improving both its resort and its position as a valued tourism enterprise in Belize. Hamanasi has maintained its “Green Globe Certified” status since 2010 and was the first beach resort in Belize to receive this certification.

Bauer conducted a site inspection of the grounds in July, including the new Great House, which is currently being renovated – the grand reopening is set for November 2014. Green Globe wanted to recognize Hamanasi for its efforts in sustainable tourism and considers the resort as one of the most notable properties in the world for sustainability.

“The basis of sustainable practice is constant improvement, and in this regard, Hamanasi is a leader in Belize’s tourism industry,” says Bauer.

Hamanasi’s renovations will improve the world-class services already provided, but will also make sure guests understand the most important message – that is nature is the main attraction. The new roof-top restaurant is just one example of how Hamanasi puts guests right into the coastal forest, providing views across the canopy to the beaches and reefs beyond.

“The fact that Hamanasi grows 30 percent of the vegetables used in the restaurant, plus has the furniture manufactured on-site with local skills and materials, just adds to the resort's reputation as a business engaging with nature, people and the surrounding community,” explains Bauer.

To become a Green Globe member, hotels and resorts must meet the Green Globe Standard for sustainable travel and tourism, which consists of 41 criteria and 337 indicators. Certified properties are audited every year.

Hamanasi maintains a list of green initiatives for every department on-site plus boasts a Green Purchasing Policy and Recycle/Reuse Policy. The resort believes in responsible, nature and cultural based eco-tourism, and understands the importance of preserving the environment and indigenous communities.

Since opening in 2000, the eco-resort has remained committed to protecting the surrounding ecosystems and their biodiversity by taking continual steps to be more environmentally friendly and aware. Hamanasi actively encourages its staff and visitors to participate in these endeavors.
