JERSEY, England - Aug. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- The Small Business Sunday competition, (#SBS) on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis, Chairman of Ryman stationery in 2010. A passionate advocate of UK small business, Theo uses the social media platform to offer support and extensive media publicity to small business owners. Every Sunday evening between 5 and 7:30pm, over 500 businesses tweet Theo, describing in less than 140 creative characters why they would make worthy winners. Theo then chooses just 6 to retweet to his 440,000 followers, who then join the growing #SBS family and meet up at the subsequent winners event.

“I saw the retweet from Theo and danced around the living room squealing, I think the whole of Jersey heard me! I was absolutely stunned.” says Sarah. “I immediately started to receive a flood of congratulatory messages and was overwhelmed by the show of support. It was definitely the best Monday ever!”

The winning tweet, accompanied by an image of a handmade silver bracelet was a confident statement –

Sarah had been entering the competition for nearly 2 years and had joined a close-knit network of weekly fellow entrants known as #SBSWIW (Small Business Sunday Winners in Waiting). Members cheer each other on every week, offering support and encouragement to those who enter. Sarah comments, “If it hadn’t been for this wonderful group, I may have given up. Many of us are now close friends and it’s their support that kept me entering each week. I’m so glad I did. Persistence has definitely paid off!”

After moving to Jersey in 2006, Sarah, a keen crafter, began learning the basics of jewellery making and soon became hooked. She created The Lilac Dragonfly in order to continue to making and selling beautiful pieces of jewellery online and at local craft fairs alongside her job as a teaching assistant. Sarah’s stunning items of silver clay jewellery incorporate semi precious gemstones as well as precious gems and Swarovski Crystals.

“Having known many previous winners, I’m well aware of the power of #SBS and the credibility it can add to a small business. Visitors to our website have doubled over the past few days and our Twitter account has gone crazy! Having been well and truly thrown in front of the spotlight by the great Theo Paphitis, I plan to make the most of this exciting opportunity!”
