LOS ANGELES - Aug. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Award-winning film and television composer Michael Yezerski’s seductive score to “The Little Death,” will soon delight audiences at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Yesterday, festival organizers announced that Australia’s sexually charged comedy – written and helmed by actor/director Josh Lawson (“House of Lies,” “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) – will join an epic slate of star-powered titles during TIFF’s run from September 4 – September 14 in Toronto, Canada.

“The Little Death” will have its International premiere in the Discovery section opening weekend of the festival on September 5 at the Scotiabank Theater. It is one of seven Aussie films screening at the festival. “The Little Death” marks Lawson’s feature film directorial debut.

Hailing from Australia, Yezerski is a noted composer, music producer and songwriter. He is known for scoring “The Black Balloon,” which earned the prestigious Australian Film Institute Award for Best Picture in 2008; the 2011 Academy Award winner for Best Animated Short, “The Lost Thing”; and PJ Hogan’s box office hit, “Mental,” an Australian dramedy that stars Toni Collette, Liev Schreiber and Anthony LaPaglia. Yezerski also recently wrote additional music for the blockbuster “Transformers: Age of Extinction” under the direction of composer Steve Jablonsky.

“It was such a thrill to work on ‘The Little Death,’” said Yezerski, who referenced Old Hollywood, Jazz, Funk and 80s ballads for the film’s score. “The comedy is so sharp and biting that it didn’t need any dramatic embellishment. Instead, the score brings a little bit of nostalgia to the film.”

“Josh’s musical ideas were right on the money,” Yezerski continued. “He has a great sense of where to use music to push the comedy and drama and where to hold back. I am so proud of the results and I can’t wait for North American audiences to see the film.”

This was the first collaboration between Lawson and Yezerski. The composer also worked with vocalist Kylie Auldist, as well as top jazz and orchestral players to create a unique and compelling sound.

Lawson explains “I wanted a score that had multiple flavors and still had a unified voice. This is where Michael’s skill really came to the fore. His knowledge of music history, genre, and tone gave the film the feeling like each couple had their signature sound but never felt like we left the universe of the film. From funk, to romantic orchestral, to 80s saxophone, Michael danced between these varied sounds and brought new life to the characters and often gave the audience permission to laugh in difficult and awkward situations.”

Produced by See Pictures, “The Little Death,” is set in the middle-class suburbs of Sydney, and follows the secret sex lives of five couples as they go through extraordinary attempts to find le petit mort, the French euphemism for orgasm.

The film stars Lawson, Bojana Novakovic (“Rake” and “Devil”), Damon Herriman (“Justified” and “The Lone Ranger”), Kate Box (“Old School” and “The Black Balloon”) and Patrick Brammall (“Offspring” and “Upper Middle Bogan”).
