Thursday's Auction to Benifit the Salvation Army
Aug. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- During the holiday season the Salvation Army can be seen and heard everywhere.  From the unmistakable sound of the ringing bell to their attire and red kettles for donations, the organization nets large totals of money annually to help those in need.  However; while many do give during the holiday season, there are 11 other months during a calendar year where the Salvation Army accepts and needs donations for others.  Because of their continual need for assistance and due to Carlisle Events excellent relationship with the Carlisle branch of The Salvation Army, a special car auction on Thursday will see proceeds directly benefit the local Carlisle branch.

On Thursday, August 21 beginning at 1 p.m., Carlisle Events, Carlisle Auctions and the Harrisburg Auto Auction, or HAA, will halt standard auction activities at the HAA’s Mechanicsburg-based auction house to run at least two dozen cars across the block.  These “charity cars” will cross the block with all fees (buyers and sellers) waived and 100% of the sale price will go directly to the Carlisle branch of The Salvation Army.  Many of the cars come from local dealerships, including Freysinger Pontiac, Lawrence Chevrolet, Bob Ruth Ford, William H. Wessel’s Used Cars, Forrer Garage, Class Car Company, Gronski Auto Sales, the Apple Group and more.  Carlisle Auctions will also donate a car to the cause and continue its long standing support of the Salvation Army.  A complete list will be known by Thursday at 1 p.m.  Further, the auction is dealer- based and is closed to the general public.  In years past, similar auctions have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the local Salvation Army branch and similar results are expected in 2014.

“This is not the first time that we have partnered with the Harrisburg Auto Auction to benefit The Salvation Army,” noted Carlisle Events’ co-owner Bill Miller, Jr.  “While we do something like this annually, we hope that as the economy begins to turn for the better that this year’s charity auction will be our biggest and best to date.  It’s one thing to donate, but it’s another to do so knowing that 100% of the money stays local to benefit locals in need.  The Salvation Army is a vital part of our community and we excited to help them out this week.”

"Historically we do a lot of charitable work," said Lynn Weaver, General Manager of the Harrisburg Auto Auction.  "This with the help of Carlisle Events, Carlisle Auctions and the GE Remarketing Race to Give campaign, The Salvation Army will once again benefit.  With the help of our dealers who have donated cars and those who will bid for charity, I’m excited to see what the end result will be.  The auction itself starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and the charity aspect begins at 1 p.m.  It’s going to be fun for everyone involved.”
