“Cut-A-Thon” raises $4,100 for “Motel Kids”

Aug. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Armed with scissors, blow dryers, shampoo and conditioner, the hair stylists from Joshua Christopher in Fullerton raised more than $4,100 for Caterina’s Club, a nonprofit formed by chef/restaurateur Bruno Serato that feeds 5,000 “motel kids” in 5 OC cities each week.  The staff of the upscale salon volunteered their time to cut, color and style the hair of their loyal clientele and donated 100% of the day’s proceeds to help feed our most vulnerable population – underprivileged children.

“Wow!  We are so grateful to the team at Joshua Christopher for taking time out of their schedules to help the kids,” said Serato.  “They surpassed what we could have dreamed they would raise!  It just goes to show how successful an endeavor can be by joining forces with others with a common purpose.”

Serato, owner of the critically acclaimed Anaheim White House restaurant, formed the organization in 2005 in honor of his mother to ensure that the “motel kids” receive a hot meal before they are tucked into bed each evening. In addition to the nightly meals, the nonprofit expanded its mission last year by placing some of these families into homes of their own.

Serato's generosity has earned him worldwide status.  He was named one of CNN's 10 Heroes of the Year and has been featured in magazines (People, Elle, Vogue), television ("CBS Evening News," "EXTRA,") and newspapers (New York Times, Los Angeles Times, OC Register) countless times.  He was even honored on the steps of the U.S. Capitol with a humanitarian award and has received countless proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition.
