One Nashville Girl’s 13th Birthday Wish Will Change Lives

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Aug. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Gracie Pfaff is turning 13 on Sunday, and her birthday wish is not what you would usually hear from a teenager. But Gracie is no ordinary teenager. At just 12 years old, she decided to start her own non-profit to help feed the hungry. Her organization, Harvest107, plants vegetable gardens in food insecure communities to relieve malnutrition and hunger. Her birthday wish this year is simple, yet profound: Gracie wishes to add at least 13 new gardens, providing hundreds more with fresh vegetables they may not otherwise have access to.

In honor of her 13th birthday, Harvest107 is surprising its founder with as many $13 donations as possible. Every donation will go towards new gardens secured and planted by the organization. Currently, Harvest107 has plans to add gardens in food insecure communities in Atlanta, Nashville, and Haiti.

The organization’s pilot garden was recently featured after its ribbon cutting ceremony at New Hope Academy in Franklin, TN. This garden has flourished and continues to be successful, regularly supplying 24 or more families with fresh produce like squash, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs.

On why she started the organization, Gracie answers: “It hurts to know that people go to bed hungry. Food is a right, not a luxury.”
