OutdoorGearLab Announces Awards For Best Bike Rack

OutdoorGearLab has revealed the winners of the 2014 Editors’ Choice awards for best bike rack.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Aug. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Ever increasing in popularity the reputable outdoor gear review website OutdoorGearLab, placed fourteen top performing bike racks side-by-side and scored them according to how well they performed during normal and aggressive use, being assembled/disassembled as well as how durable and secure they were. These fourteen contenders were challenged for a year using different bikes, cars and testers and driven on everything from freeways to desolate back roads. Awards were given accordingly to the Editors’ Choice, Top Pick and Best Buy in this Top Bike Rack review.

The Winners:

Editors’ Choice award goes to the Kuat NV. According to Gear Review Editor Curtis Smith, “The NV was easiest of all the racks we tested to get a bike on and off of. It has an excellent ergonomic design and can carry a lot of weight. Though it is on the heavier side it can carry nearly any kind of bicycle with only minor adjustments needed.”

The Thule Raceway 2 wins the Top Pick award for best truck mounted bike rack. Gear Editor Smith reports, “The Raceway has a unique setup system that uses a steel cable system instead of straps. Its ratcheting system is the most secure system for trucks that we tested.”

The Yakima ForkLift also Top Pick award winner is described by Smith as, “A rack that is secure and stable in the wind. It will attach to any kind of crossbar and is easy to assemble. This rack does have a forty pound weight capacity and works well on vehicles with roof heights that are lower.”

The Best Buy award goes to the RockyMounts PitchFork. Smith summarizes,”The PitchFork is a stable, secure and versitle rack. It’s inexpensive and simple but made from quality materials with a solid construction. Though it requires front tire removal to mount, it has a very reliable fork mount design.”
