BUEA, Cameroon - Aug. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Saint Monica University (SMU): The American International University in Cameroon and Central State University, Wilberforce, OH, in the United States, today announced that they have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) geared at promoting intellectual exchanges between the two universities. The MOU, which has been signed by the presidents of both universities, goes into effect immediately.

“We’re delighted to establish exchange programs with the reputed US-based Central State University,” said Prof. Januarius J. Asongu, President and Chief Executive Officer of SMU. “The exchange programs encompass, but are not limited to the promotion of international study and service learning; the establishment of joint programs; the exchange of scholars (professors, lecturers, or researchers) and students; the organization of joint research programs; the writing of joint grant proposals; and other academic exchanges and development activities to which both institutions agree.”

According to the agreement signed by Prof. Asongu of SMU and Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, President of Central State University, the purpose of this agreement is to build friendship and goodwill and foster a relationship that will promote intellectual exchanges with an international focus between students, faculty members, and administrators of SMU and CSU. In an effort to internationalize the life-long learning process, both parties are now prepared to participate in a formal exchange program that seeks to promote an academic exchange and to provide collaboration in research efforts.

Located in Cameroon, a beautiful and peaceful African nation at the crossroads of West and Central Africa, SMU offers many opportunities for scholarship and research for the CSU community. Known as Africa in miniature, Cameroon is the ideal location for anyone interested in understanding Africa. SMU operates four schools – the School of Arts & Education (SAE); School of Business & Public Policy (SBPP); School of Health & Human Services (SHHS); and School of Science, Engineering & Technology (SSET). On its part, CSU operates four colleges – the College of Business; the College of Education; the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; and the College of Science and Engineering which includes the Departments of Manufacturing Engineering and Water Resource Management, form the core of the University’s varied academic offerings. The CSU Institute for Urban Education (IUE) builds on Central State’s roots as a center of excellence for teacher education. A newly developed program in environmental engineering builds on CSU’s signature Water Resource Management Program, and a new major in criminal justice will further expand career opportunities for Central State University students
