AUMA electric actuators replace pneumatic technology

By: AUMA GmbH

Aug. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- High maintenance costs of pneumatic actuation technology for valve control, with its associated compressed air supply, were reviewed as part of a modernisation initiative at the Schmidtsche Quelle water treatment plant in Heidelberg, Germany. As a result, the public utility, Stadtwerke Heidelberg replaced approximately 50 pneumatic devices with AUMA SGC electric actuators.

Leakage in the compressed air system was recognised as representing an additional, and considerable, cost for the pneumatic actuators. AUMA’s electric actuators are powered by maintenance-free electrical cables, ensuring high energy efficiency: calculations determined that savings during operation justified procurement of the electric actuation technology.

The SGC actuators’ highly compact design met the scheme’s prerequisites, as installations were required in cramped locations. Additionally, availability of a Profibus DP interface enabled actuator integration into the new control system.

AUMA - the leading manufacturer & global supplier of modular electric actuators for fifty years.
