Completely turning her life around, Kim grew up in poverty on welfare, is the only person in family to ever go to college. In addition she overcame a debilitating speech impediment to become an entertainment reporter who interviewed celebrities, musicians, producers, and Pulitzer Prize winners. As a competitive synchronized swimmer (competed in Junior Olympics), Kim cured herself of childhood asthma by holding breath underwater. Later in life she won a Webby for her groundbreaking work for General Motors, was nominated for the Los Angeles Women Making A Difference Award and Gutsy Gals Inspire Me® award
