PHOENIX - Aug. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Shade Projects proudly presents "Old Stories" the solo exhibition of Lara Plecas in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid. This much anticipated exhibition is Plecas first solo exhibition in over a year debut her exciting new series of work "Old Stories". Featuring both paper and encaustic work that incorporates old currency, maps, and miscellaneous paper, which have been cut and transformed into intricate quilting patterns. These captivating mixed media work aims to tell stories that have been passed down through the artist’s family over the generations. Through her artwork Plecas says “I explore the connection between human emotion and our environment specifically focusing on the feelings and memories that are connected with these experiences.“ Shade Projects Curator, Nicole Royse says, “visitors will be drawn to the imagery and patterns found in these stunning mixed media works and captivated by the artist's stories.”

Plecas is a former member of the Eye Lounge Artist Collective and has exhibited her work throughout the valley. Most recently she exhibited her work at Modified Arts Gallery this past January. This exhibition will be her first solo exhibition since leaving the Eye Lounge Artist Collective in early 2013. Plecas was also included in the Phoenix New Times “100 Creative Forces in Phoenix” list.

“Old Stories” will be on display in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid from September 5th until September 26th, 2014. The free public opening reception will be held on First Friday, September 5th from 6-10pm with the artist in attendance. The closing reception will be held Third Friday, September 19th from 6-10pm. The night will feature a brief talk by the artist reflecting upon her new series of work “Old Stories” at 7pm. There will also be live music by local bands Cherie Cherie and Happy Plaza from 8:30-10pm. The monOrchid is located at 214 E. Roosevelt Street in the heart of Phoenix's downtown arts district.
