SAN DIEGO - Aug. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- When she felt her back muscles tear from the strain, Janet Lawlor knew her career working with traumatized animals was over, but had hopes of continued work with tamer animals.  Those hopes were dashed when the severity of her injuries became known.

Her condition deteriorated until she was reduced to getting around in a wheelchair, quite a change from roaming the countryside astride a horse.  Once known as a “horse whisperer” for her unique ability to connect with the animals she trained, Janet was now barely able to look after her own pets.  Her doctors weren’t holding out much hope for a full recovery, but she was determined to regain her mobility and began searching for alternative solutions.  Thus began a three year journey which changed the course of her life.

Finding a knowledgeable massage therapist was the first step in her rehabilitation, and after receiving daily massage for six months, Janet Lawlor was ready for the next step:  a service dog to help her re-learn how to walk.  “Once I could walk one quarter mile with Murphy at my side, I began physical therapy along with private Yoga instruction. I continued with massage therapy several times a week.”  Janet goes on to say; “The therapy became my job.  In addition to a home exercise program, I spent forty hours a week with physical, occupational and Yoga therapists as well as doing bio-feedback and cognitive behavioral therapy. “

The rehabilitation plan worked, and after three months of the grueling therapy schedule, Janet entered Mueller College for Holistic Health Therapies.  “My in-depth knowledge of animal physiology and movement made it quite easy to learn human anatomy, physiology and kinesiology (the study of movement).”

The course of her own recovery helps direct Janet’s studies as a bodyworker who specializes in postural deviations as well as pain and stress management.  “I’ve been a chronic pain patient.  I understand the physical and emotional impact of constant pain.” A Board Certified Massage and Bodywork Therapist, Janet continues her education through regular seminars and workshops, and has studied both western and Asian forms of bodywork. She has spent years studying Osteopathy-based pain free releases, and is a certified Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist, a Certified Posture and Pain Specialist, a Reiki Master/Teacher, and a certified Yoga instructor.
