Amity Insurance advises hurrican action plan

QUINCY, Mass. - Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- With hurricane season presently in full force, its better late than never to have an action plan in place, according to Amity Insurance Agency, Inc., the region's leading full service agency.

Preparation for a hurricane or severe storm is critical to help protect your property, business and employees.  In fact, the most destructive storms tend to occur in August and September with the potential for significant wind, water and flood damage.

The objective is to ensure the availability of emergency supplies and equipment on premises.  A sound hurricane emergency kit should include:

A three-day supply of drinking water and nonperishable food
Medical supplies/first-aid kits
Emergency lighting; flashlights and spare batteries
Emergency radio – battery, solar or crank-powered
Portable pumps and hose
Lumber, plywood, nails
Hand and power tools
Plastic covers and tarpaulins
Blankets and extra clothing

It is also wise to have all employee, vendor and client contact information on file and backed up at an off-site location.  Maintain copies of vital records off site such as business and customer records and utility plans.

Contact information should be readily available for the local fire department; police department; your insurance agent; building owner; HVAC contractor; electrician; and plumber.
