Snell & Wilmer Partner Randolph Moore Designated a Certified Specialist in Admiralty & Maritime Law
The State Bar of California’s Legal Specialization program was the first of its kind, created for the purposes of increasing public protection and encouraging attorney competence. Admiralty and maritime law, one of eleven legal specialty areas available for certification by the program, is a distinct body of law dealing with the substantive and procedural aspects of marine commerce, vessels, navigation, shipping and transportation of goods by sea. It includes the statutes and regulations that govern the operation of vessels, piers, marinas and the impact of pollution upon navigable waters and, under certain circumstances, activities on the high seas. To earn the certification, the bar imposes a rigorous application process including passage of a written examination of admiralty and maritime law and completion of 45 hours of legal education or a LL.M. degree in maritime law. California attorneys who are certified as specialists have demonstrated a high level of experience in the specialty field, fulfilled ongoing education requirements and been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with their work.
At Snell & Wilmer, Moore has represented clients in complex admiralty/maritime, product liability, commercial, class action, and insurance litigation since 1985. He has served as lead trial counsel in the defense of product manufacturers in wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury, general commercial and consumer warranty cases in jurisdictions throughout the United States. Moore has also counseled product manufacturers on compliance with state and federal regulations and industry standards, and has advised them on product liability preventative measures, safety recalls, warnings, product operation manuals and warranties. He has developed national and regional litigation programs designed to manage specific litigation claims, and has served as national or regional counsel for manufacturers of automotive products, marine products, and personal protective equipment. Moore is a member of the Maritime Law Association, the American Boat & Yacht Council, and both the Admiralty Law Section and Federal Litigation Section of the Federal Bar Association.
