YORK, Maine - Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- York Hospital Hospice announced today that it has received a grant award of $4,394.00 from the Maine Community Foundation to educate the southern Maine community about the availability of comprehensive end-of-life care provided by their not-for-profit hospice.   Working collaboratively with York Hospital, grant funds will be used to develop and implement educational workshops in Kittery and York.  These workshops will be designed to educate the residents of York County about the availability and scope of hospice services, the benefits of early referral to patient and families and the availability of comprehensive bereavement services for all residents. The workshops will be free of charge and open to the general public.

“We are very grateful to the Maine Community Foundation for providing the funds necessary to implement these important educational programs,” said John G. Albert, MBA, FACHE, CEO of York Hospital Hospice a division of Merrimack Valley Hospice.   “As a local community not-for-profit hospice providing care in partnership with York Hospital, we are committed to educating the public about the importance of compassionate end-of-life care and bereavement services available to all patients and families in need.”

“Community education about end-of-life care is critical to early referrals that are most beneficial to the patient and family,” said Jud Knox, President and CEO of York Hospital.  “This is a wonderful opportunity and a great service to the communities in our care.”

The planning of these educational programs is underway.  It is anticipated that the first program, to be held in York in September, will feature lunch, a one-hour presentation, an opportunity for questions and answers and open discussion.   More detailed information will be forthcoming.
