Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- SpiceRoads Cycle Tours (http://www.spiceroads.com/tours/bangkok_yangon) has launched the premiere 14-day tour by bicycle from Bangkok to Yangon, taking riders through untouristy parts of Thailand and Burma for an authentic insight into both cultures.

From Thailand’s bustling capital the cycle tour will pass through ancient cities to historical sites, through peaceful rural villages and wild national parks and over the border into a fascinating Burma that most tourists never see.

One of the most rewarding but longest cycling days will be to the beautiful waterfalls and granite-peaks of Lan Sang National Park. After a refreshing swim the day will end at a charming rustic hotel located in an idyllic mountain setting.

Crossing the border the tour will then ride onto Hpa An for a well-deserved two night stopover allowing time to explore the picturesque countryside overflowing with caves, springs and temples. There is a visit to the amazing Kaw Gun cave temple, filled with around 10,000 statues and images of various sizes dating back to the 7th Century. The area is nothing short of fantastic, with karst peaks jutting out of bright green rice fields, especially the impressive 722 m high Mt. Zwegabin.

On the second to last day the tour will arrive at the impressive Golden Rock – a huge boulder covered by 60 tons of gold leaf precariously balanced on the edge of a cliff. Many believe that it is possible to pass a thread under the rock from one side to the other, proving that the boulder is actually hovering above the cliff on which it appears to sit.

The tour covers 827km in 13 cycling days mostly on rural tracks and quiet roads. This trip is an adventurous journey suitable for anyone who is keen to cover some distance, cycle up a few hills (and down!) and take on a variety of terrain from tarmac roads, cobblestone streets to dirt trails.

To mark the launch of this tour, SpiceRoads is offering free bike hire on its inaugural December 7 tour. More departure dates available in 2015.

SpiceRoads (http://www.spiceroads.com/tripfinder?utf8=%E2%9C%93&s...) offers four other tours in Burma: Burma Adventure – a 14-day tour from Inle Lake to Mandalay; Cycling the Burma Road – 14-day tour on old WWII military supply lines and to former colonial British hill stations; Burma Heritage – a 7-day tour from Kipling’s Mandalay to the temples at Bagan and Discover the Shan Hills by Bicycle – a 5-day tour that takes in enigmatic Inle Lake.
