Will Bronson, Candidate For Florida’s 17th C.D Challenges Incumbent on Issues of Fairness

Will Bronson - Democratic candidate for Florida’s 17th Congressional District – challenges the incumbent Tea Party Congressman Tom Rooney on issues of practical importance to the people.

July 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Will Bronson, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of  Representatives is mounting a forceful and credible challenge on multiple issues, including these five:

(i) minimum wage,

(ii) immigration reform,

(iii) women’s rights,

(iv) environmental concerns and

(v) term limits

against incumbent Tom Rooney

“The underlying rationale of our campaign is to restore fairness,” Bronson said. “There is no reason why workers in South Central Florida, who earn at or less than the national average should not benefit from minimum wage increase from $7.65 per hour to $10.10 per hour, certainly not to appease Mr. Rooney’s wealthy donors.  I believe that Mr. Rooney is insulting the workers and voters of this District by his abject failure to unequivocally commit to improve the standard of living of the people he supposedly represents.”

Mr. Bronson further observed “this country has stood as a beacon of hope for the world for over two hundred years. The Statue of Liberty proclaims: ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…’, a proclamation that many of our ancestors coming here took seriously.  We owe it to them to develop a sane and fair immigration policy. Mr. Rooney’s “no” vote on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Act, deprives every Floridian, every American, from the economic benefits that would accrue if the children who were raised and educated here at the primary level, were allowed to go on to become doctors, nurses, teachers, firemen, engineers and entrepreneurs, and give back to the community. Mr. Rooney has failed to explain how his negative vote is fair to the people of this District.”

“It is incomprehensible to this campaign, and to me personally, that Mr. Rooney found it in his heart to vote ‘no’ on the Violence Against Women’s Act,” Bronson said. Elaborating, Bronson slammed Rooney for his “failure or refusal to see women as equal to men, and for his willingness to participate in and perpetuate the now well-reported Republican war against women. This not only contradicts principles of fundamental fairness but disregards the United States Constitution,” Bronson asserted. “If elected, I intend to bring the full force of my position to promote the equal treatment of women in this District. There is no reason in the 21st century to not promote this equality, and certainly Mr. Rooney has never been able to explain how disparate treatment is fair.”

Moving on to his environmental concerns, Bronson expressed dismay over Rooney’s anti-environmental votes in Congress and his willingness to support the goals of predatory profiteers at the expense of the citizens of the 17th District. “It is difficult to understand how anyone would trade drinking water for oil, yet that is pretty much what Mr. Rooney has voted for time and again,” said Bronson, referring to Rooney’s support of hydraulically fracturing the earth to extract fossil fuels, a process that requires enormous quantities of water. “I have committed to fight for the well-being of every citizen in this District; it helps no one when the water coming out of a kitchen tap ignites on contact with a flame. I understand that Mr. Rooney receives large donations from energy companies, but that does not entitle him to sell-out the people he is sworn to serve.”

“Because of the dangers of allowing a potential corporate shill to ‘represent’ the public in the House of Representatives, I am a proponent of term limits,” Bronson advised. “Even though that could prevent a true champion of the people from serving them for a long time, the risks are too great. For that reason I propose a two-term limit for people running for Congress.”

Bronson recently pushed his pro-peace proclivities by adopting the slogan “I Declare World Peace” propounded by a pro-peace social-media art project called the I Declare World Peace project. “A fundamental component of creating actual peace is the fair treatment of people. Each plank in my platform is designed to promote that fairness. Mr. Rooney has failed to explain, likely because he cannot, how any position he has taken on the five issues I have discussed today is fair to anyone. Advancing the financial interests of his large money corporate donors is not about ‘fair’; it is about profit, not one dime of which goes to the people.”
