Ontario Truck Driving Championships Award Canada Cartage Drivers with Top Honours

BARRIE, Ontario - July 29, 2014 - PRLog -- A winning performance at the 2014 Ontario Truck Driving Championships has earned Canada Cartage driver Preetpal Nijjit a spot on Team Ontario, and a chance to compete for national honours at the National Truck Driving Championships in September.

Two Canada Cartage drivers walked away with coveted awards at this year’s Ontario championships in Barrie, Ontario, after finishing strong in previous qualification events. A total of 67 drivers from regionals competed for awards in 5 separate classes: Straight Truck, Single-Single, Single-Tandem, Tandem-Tandem and B-train. Special honours were given for Rookie of the Year, Highest Points, the MTO safety award, Pre-trip high and the Grand Champion.

Seven Canada Cartage representatives competed in four events; the winner of the Tandem-Tandem division was Canada Cartage’s Preetpal Nijjar – a former Rookie of the Year, and winner of multiple division titles. Nijjar will represent Canada Cartage on Team Ontario this year, and says competing isn’t any different from the professional driving he does on a daily basis. Preetpal also represented Canada Cartage on team Ontario in 2011, and placed second in that event.

In addition to winning the division, Nijjar scored the highest points total in the competition, even on a day when the course was particularly difficult; this according to course officiates, inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation, and OTDC President, Ewen Steele.

Another Canada Cartage driver, Marc Lefebvre, ranked among top-performers, placing second in the Single-Single division.

The five truck class winners at last week’s event will form Team Ontario and compete at the National level in Quebec.
