Medical Trek Nepal Announces New Dates for Upcoming Trekking Seasons

ORLANDO, Fla. - July 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Autumn is the best time for trekking in Nepal, and this year Medical Trek Nepal (http://medicaltreknepal.com ) offers two treks in October and November 2014.  Medical Trek Nepal has become a popular trek not only with international volunteers, but also with the local Nepali villages which they serve.

“Each time we head out to a region, we come back to Kathmandu, and here there is another area that has requested our Medical Trek to come and help,” says Sandra Krasa BK, Founder and Director of Medical Trek Nepal.   “We have gone from two treks per year, to four treks planned for the upcoming seasons.  We will see around 4000 villagers on the combined treks in our moving medical camps.”

Medical Trek Nepal takes volunteers to remote areas of Nepal to provide medical care for those who have no access to hospitals, doctors or medicine.  Unlike typical treks in Nepal, this is well off the beaten tourist trails, and the volunteer trekkers get a cultural immersion experience.  Many of the villagers have not seen Western people, and have little knowledge of modern medicine.

“In many villages they still have a shaman who treats the sick and infirm,” says Krasa BK, “and while we respect that and do not want them to stop their traditional methods, we have found that Western medicine can raise the quality of life for these people more quickly. Good health is important to survival here.”

Medical and non-medical people are encouraged to join this trek. All fees go to support the trek and medical camps, with proceeds donated to the Empowerment of Dalit Women of Nepal to fund a scholarship which sends Dalit girls to nursing school.
