Cinemazement Returns w/a 2nd Installment 9/27/14!
Film Without The Fuss: The TAKII World Tour Brings Back Its Very Successful Cinemazement Series To A BRAND NEW Philly Venue Partner On September 27th, 2014!
Cinemazement 2 is FREE TO ATTEND & takes place from 1 of our newest venue partners, Studio 34 (located at 4522 Baltimore Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143, which is 8-10 blocks from The Rotunda), on September 27th, 2014 @ 6:00pm - 10:00pm EST. It'll also be HERE that fans of Asian cinema will be able to enjoy a wide variety of video favorites, with our 2nd-ever Cinemazement screenings comprised of the following:
- Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon Crystal (Produced by Toei Animation & directed by Sakai Munehisa, Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon Crystal is a 2014 anime series that celebrates the 20th anniversary of Takeuchi Naoko's most successful shoujo masterpiece. It focuses on Tsukino Usagi, a young girl who is blessed with power from the Moon & joined by 4 other Sailor Senshi in search of the Maboroshi no Ginzuishou. Their quest for this legendary item is complicated, however, by the rise of Queen Beryl & her Dark Kingdom, whose goal is to conquer Earth & destroy the Moon Princess. The highly-anticipated Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon Crystal aims to become a more faithful adaptation of the original manga & is scheduled to run 26 episodes, rekindling the magic & mystique of 1 of Japan's greatest entertainment exports.)
- One Piece (One Piece is an anime series from the manga of the same title written by Oda Eiichiro, produced by Toei Animation, & directed by Uda Konosuke, Sakai Munehisa, & Miyamoto Hiroaki. It began broadcasting on Fuji Television on October 20th, 1999 & follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy, whose body gains the properties of rubber from accidentally eating a supernatural fruit, & his crew of diverse pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy's greatest ambition is to obtain the world's ultimate treasure, One Piece, & thereby become the next King of the Pirates. While critically panned as a 4Kids Entertainment dub VS enjoyed as a Funimation production, One Piece is respected by otaku everywhere as 1 of the most prolific anime & manga properties of all time.)
- Great Teacher Onizuka (Gardener Onizuka Eikichi is pruning trees at a school garden as part time work. A student named Yoshikawa Noboru, who is Fuyuzuki Azu's student, is about to jump from the roof. Onizuka sees the student & talks him out of jumping. Afterwards, Yoshikawa is bullied by 3 female classmates & they take his money, but not before some Onizuka-style justice is dispensed. This is only the beginning of a story of a part time hero, part time pervert protagonist & his unique school titled Great Teacher Onizuka! With origins from a manga (authored by Fujisawa Tooru) & anime series (produced by Studio Pierrot) from the late 1990s by the same name, this 2012 live action revival sheds a new light on 1 of Asian fandom's guiltiest pleasures).
- Minyeoneun Goerowo (Minyeoneun Goerowo (known to Western fans as 200-Pound Beauty) is a 2006 South Korean comedy film based on a Japanese manga, Kanna-san, Daiseikou Desu, by Suzuki Yumiko. The story is about an overweight girl who undergoes extreme plastic surgeries to become a Pop sensation. The film was a financial success, earning approximately $45 million against its $4 million budget. It was also critically well-received, winning Best Actress for Kim Ah-Joong & Best Cinematography for Park Hyeon-Cheol at the 2007 Grand Bell Awards, together with nominations for Best Film & Best Director. Minyeoneun Goerowo received 6,619,498 admissions (ticket sales) nationwide, becoming the 3rd highest grossing Korean production of the year! Not bad at all for a movie that personifies how beauty & success are only skin deep. ^_^)
Cinemazement attendees will be treated to a unique viewing experience as can only be provided by the creators of "the world's most extreme Asian culture fusion festival". In lieu of the FREE entrance fee, we will be taking donations & selling Asian snacks/drinks at the door to raise funds necessary to support the mission of our friends at The Rotunda in bringing more arts-positive programming into the Greater Philadelphia area.
