The Oceania Cross Triathlon Championships will see the leaders of the Australian TreX Cross Triathlon Series compete against their Oceania counterparts, in what will be one of the most uniquely challenging off-road events held in Australia. Competitors will have the chance to take home a share of the $50,000 Festival Prize Pool in the main event, which will also be one of the qualifying rounds for the ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships in 2015. Sprint Distance, Junior and Dirt Kids Cross Triathlon events will also be staged, alongside trail run and mountain bike events throughout the festival.
The Evolution of Cross Triathlon
Cross Triathlon has been simmering on the fringe of Australian sport for some time now and over the past seven years Australia’s national cross triathlon series TreX has been raising the profile of the sport and witnessing its rapid growth in popularity. Cross Triathlon takes the traditional format and mixes it with a huge helping of grit, dirt and hardcore action as competitors tackle a combination of swimming, mountain biking and trail running legs.
The success of the TreX series, coupled with the strong support of Triathlon Australia and the recent staging of sanctioned Australian Championships, means OFF-ROAD is rapidly becoming the ONLY ROAD for many triathletes. Securing the first Oceania Championships in Australia is testament to cross triathlon’s future both in Australia and across the world.
