Follow on Google News | You Don’t Need a Medical Degree to Save a Life: Donate Blood and Save Lives this SummerWhen one pint of donated blood can save up to three lives, it is 20 minutes well spent. Collecting donations in downtown Clearwater this weekend are Florida’s One Blood and the Church of Scientology.
By: Church of Scientology, Flag People wishing to donate need to be at least 16 years old, in good health and weigh over 110 pounds. One Blood also recommends eating an iron-rich meal and being well-hydrated before you donate. “It only takes 20 minutes to a half hour to donate,” said Church Spokesperson Pat Harney, “and in doing so, you are making it possible for a parent to bring their child home from the hospital, or you are helping a person beat cancer. You can really make a difference.” Per the American Red Cross website, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. A car accident victim could need up to 100 pints of blood to recover from their injuries. “Although 38% of the US population is eligible to give blood, less than 10% do,” said Ms. Harney. Ms. Harney says that the blood drive is open to the public and the donors can be of any denomination. She added, “The Founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard said that ‘Life is a group effort. None survive alone.’ Donating blood is a tangible way to help others and the Church of Scientology is honored to be able to contribute to the lives of people in this way.” If you wish to donate, please contact 727-467-6860.
