By: Design Engineering This year, DEI arranged for a special appearance by Mike McFadden from M&M Customs. Mike is an up and coming bike builder from Owensboro, KY. His bikes are special because he does all the work himself, including paint. It’s rare to see a builder that can bring together artistic vision, fabrication and the finishing touches. “DEI has sponsored Mike for a couple of years now and it was a great opportunity to be able to showcase his work,” remarked DEI Powersports Manager, Brian VanKoevering. “It’s rare to see a builder that can bring together artistic vision, fabrication and the finishing touches.” M&M brought three bikes to display, El Dora, Salt Shaker, & Holy Moly. El Dora and Salt Shaker have been displayed before, but this was the debut of Holy Moly. Working until the last minute, Mike was still putting some finishing touches on the bike as he arrived on Friday. The bike is a beautiful root beer color, finished off with leather accents and sitting on a pair of French Vanilla colored Ride Wright wheels. The powerplant is a 1973 Honda CB450 Twin with a 500 big bore kit, mated to a pair of Mikuni smooth bore carbs. The exhaust is custom made 2 into 2, covered with tan DEI Exhaust Wrap. Interest was evident as crowds gathered around the DEI tent on Friday. Mike felt pretty good about his chances going into Saturdays’ Readers Ride-in Custom Bike Show sponsored by Café Racer Magazine. His confidence was not unfounded as he rode out of the tent with El Dora taking the award for “Best Japanese Café Racer” and Holy Moly bagging the “People’s Choice” award. “This is our first time to VMD & it’s really cool to see so many types of motorcycles in one place. It’s been great to talk bikes & watch the different types of racing this weekend,” added McFadden. Look for the M&M Customs display at this year’s upcoming MotoGP in Indy and the Barber Vintage Festival in October.
