HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - July 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Leading elected officials and progressive organizations continue to rally around the John Paul Alvarez for State Representative campaign in Florida HD 100, as it tries to make history by electing the first-ever openly gay and the first-ever Hispanic Democratic state legislator representing Broward County.

Fellow public school teacher and highly respected Florida State Senator Dwight Bullard (District 39) is the latest legislator to give Alvarez his enthusiastic support, writing this in a new South Florida Sun Times feature story published today:

"As a six-year veteran of the Florida Legislature, it’s my pleasure to endorse John Paul Alvarez...John’s exactly the kind of energetic, independent public servant the people of HD 100 deserve as their new advocate in office...He’ll fight to raise the minimum wage, to put small business development over big business tax breaks, and to take pressure off lower and middle income taxpayers by making corporations pay their full fair share of taxes. He’ll fight for affordable housing and homeowners insurance, and quality, affordable health care for all Floridians. And he’ll join me in facing down “climate change deniers” willing to put thousands of homes, properties and lives in our coastal areas at great risk."

The Alvarez campaign is thrilled to have such a strong endorsement from a legislator Alvarez admires greatly, one he says he hopes to emulate in office:

"Senator Bullard is exactly  the kind of hard-working, no-strings-attached progressive champion for the people that I want to be in the legislature. I'm proud to have him in my corner in this HD 100 race."

In recent days John has also picked up key endorsements from the Florida National Organization for Women (NOW), Democracy For America, Progressive Majority, and most recently from the national progressive organization, People for the American Way.

A 30-year-old third grade public school teacher who lives and works in HD 100, John has been an active community leader and progressive Democratic Party activist for years. From his great grasp of the issues and challenges facing the district and state, to his energy, enthusiasm and experience, to his determination to run a people-powered grassroots campaign; expectations are that John Paul's "New Way Forward For Florida" campaign will keep gaining endorsements and momentum, all the way to victory in the Democratic Primary on August 26.
