Outside the Walls Ministry to Host 4th Annual Jazz Event “Loving You” to Benefit the Homeless

Outside the Walls Ministry, Inc –Gainesville (OTWMG) will host its 4nd annual jazz singing, dining and dancing event on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 6:00-11:00 p.m.   This must-attend event will be held at the Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club, 6901 Arthur Hills Drive, Gainesville, VA.  The theme this year is Loving You.  “You have to love what we do,” stated Rev. Pat Ford, CEO of OTWM, “Otherwise just the continuous increase of so many displaced women, children and veterans (who made sacrifices for our freedom) would depress you.  It is the smile on these same faces as we deliver food, smart cards and a list of other resources that keeps me going.” Executive Director, Lonnie Ford stated that he and the board of directors are excited about this worth-while event. “As I canvass the streets daily, I continue to be saddened by the number of veterans, men, women and even families who have found themselves hungry and homeless, often due to things outside of their control. “

This year’s guest speaker is Rodger “the Dodger” Leonard. Mr. Leonard is a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) level 1 Drug Counselor and entrepreneur.  1n 1978, Roger turned pro and before retiring in 1982, Roger “The Dodger” had been ranked # 2 in the world, compiling a record of 16 wins 1 lost. He was the sole inspiration to his younger brother, Sugar Ray Leonard.

In order to meet such a great demand, OTWMG found that it had to find other creative means to raise funds so that it could continue to accomplish its mission. “We are grateful to our sponsors: Former Lakers Assistant Coach Jim Cleamons, The Hester Group, Wal-Mart, Ted Britt Automotive-Chantilly, Sanametrix, Inc., and others who wish to remain anonymous,” stated Mrs. Marlene Thomas, Chairperson of the Board of Directors for OTWMG. “Without their generous donations, this event could not take place.”

World renowned group Common Ground will accompany jazz singers Brenda Pinkelton, Alfreder Gardner, Moni.Arai, Jessica Moore and Cleve Battle.  These talented five will sing their rendition of songs like Good Morning Headache, Betcha By Golly Wow, My Funny Valentine, I Can’t Make You Love Me,  and Summertimeto name a few. Quest deejay, Willie Taylor, will provide Motown sounds for listening and dancing.
