PORT DOUGLAS, Australia - July 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said the region had seen spectacular weather over the last couple weeks, just in time for the peak holiday period.

“There has been beautiful blue skies, cool mornings and warm 25 degree days, which has been welcomed by the industry.

“We are starting to see a good volume of people coming through and by all accounts they are having a fantastic time with lots of wildlife spottings, and great 4WD conditions.”

The Bloomfield Track, which is just north of Cape Tribulation is one of the most spectacular four wheel drive routes in Australia traversing 36km through World Heritage Listed rainforest. Highlights along the way as you head north towards Cooktown include Bloomfield Falls, Donovan’s Lookout, and the mysterious Black Mountains.

Mike D’Arcy of D’Arcy of Daintree 4WD Tours, said the message was well and truly out there that the Bloomfield Track is open.

“The weather has dried out the track and camp grounds and many accommodation places are reporting excellent bookings from Cape Tribulation to Cooktown.

“We have seen plenty of crocs driving along the Bloomfield River, often up to four in one day. Two days ago, a dad cassowary with his two new baby chicks were sighted near Cooper Creek just near Cow Bay, and we believe that these may be the first of this season’s new chicks.”

Mr D’Arcy said orange footed scrub fowls were also out again enjoying the weather. “At Cowie Beach in the evenings flocks of up to 40 or so Rainbow Bee Eaters have been noisily milling and chasing insects, while armies of soldier crabs have been seen on the beach.”
