ELK GROVE, Calif. - July 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Inflation has been" low" according to government reports but I''ve talked about this smoke and mirror tactic before. Several year ago energy, health care, and many food prices were removed from the Consumers Price Index.

According to many experts if these categories were included, the national inflation rate would be well above 6%.

According to economist Allen von Mehren, inflation growth has been moved from the Consumer Price Index to Asset Prices.
  Asset Prices are the Problem

The reason Asset Prices are increasing is the high number of those unemployed, both on the recorded number and those removed from the rolls (see usdebtclock.org) and also the growth from the shale oil booms around the country.

There are many screaming that the economy is about to fall apart and that the governments actions are about to explode the U S Economy. And for the most part I agree, but while many view the recession risk as low asset prices will continue to rise.

For those investing in the market this is a good thing for their portfolio values. The risk is that a whole new set of asset bubbles are being created in the same fashion as in 2008.
Before 2008 the asset bubble was centered around the housing arena in the form of crazy housing values and blown up mortgage backed securities.

Inflation is Here and Hiding

For the current investor the new bubble is inflated asset prices in the stock market. Without a discerning investment manager a day to day investor could get caught off guard when the market re-prices itself (stock market correction).
Even worse, if a consumer has a retail advisor from a large bank or brokerage house managing their investments they could be holding their bubble investments for months before that advisor adjusts their portfolio. The whole time the value could be dropping and the consumer is being fed the lie of "it's a great time to buy".

The reason for that is because retail advisors are compensated and pressured by their managers to see more and more consumers. They are never asked how much they know or how well they're managing their current clients.
This creates a hostile investing environment for consumers. It also puts the consumer at high risk to this overvalued asset market.

The simple explanation is that many stocks are overpriced. You must have a discerning investment manager to look for value and opportunities in an inflated market like this one.
