“Thousands of Miles Changing Thousands of Lives”
LEAP Foundation DC’s Chairman, Dr. Clayton Lawrence, has eclipsed the 6000th mile marker in marathon running to support charitable causes.
Dr. Lawrence began training for and participating in endurance sports in 2011. Known for raising awareness and funds for important health organizations and causes, endurance sports represented a way for Dr. Lawrence and LEAP Foundation DC to be more actively involved in charitable giving, as well as a way for him to commit himself to leading a more proactively healthy lifestyle. “The physical and mental strength that it takes to participate in endurance sports reflects the indomitable spirit that each of us have when we push past our limits,” Lawrence states. “To participate in events that place an emphasis on using that spirit as a way to strengthen support for those debilitated by devastating illnesses or life events is an incredible opportunity and one that I am thankful every day that I made the decision to begin doing.”
Since 2011, Lawrence has earned 40 marathon medals, running 6000 miles, on four continents, in five countries, and 11 states, but more importantly, he has been able to valwy be a part of raising awareness for the following organizations:
LEAP Foundation DC has helped raise several thousand dollars and volunteered more than 1,100 hours running since Dr. Lawrence made his entrance into endurance sports. This year alone, he has competed in seven marathons, and is set to compete in six more, with the next race appearance occurring in Chicago on July 22, 2014.
