Green Globe International Announces Energy Efficiency and Community Support Initiative in Ukraine
Letter of Intent includes strategy to enter the Ukraine energy efficiency and renewable energy marketplace through support of a local professional soccer team
Green Globe’s “Pathway to Sustainability”
Energy efficiency is a critical issue in Ukraine, due to the country’s dependence on natural gas imports from Russia. The recent political conflict in Ukraine has only heightened the need for Ukraine to immediately pursue energy independence initiatives. The quickest and most inexpensive method to decrease dependency on foreign energy imports is to reduce energy usage coupled with the implementation of renewables for energy production.
The Letter of Intent outlines the company’s intention to support FC Krystal Kherson, a Division II soccer club, which has lost its traditional financial support from the city of Kherson. By providing suitable and safe training fields for the professional team to practice, the local community will benefit with facilities for area youth teams and for families to utilize to play soccer, the most popular sport in Ukraine. Support of the club also provides jobs and bolsters the local economy through sales of tickets, concessions, team apparel, and equipment.
Through its support of this vital community asset, Green Globe will gain access to key political and business contacts as well as energy usage data from their government buildings, school and hospital buildings, high rise office buildings, and manufacturing facilities. Green Globe will use this data to develop energy efficiency programs specifically designed for each building or facility using the maximum renewable energy resources possible. Once these programs are developed, Green Globe will use the success in Kherson to facilitate a sustainable energy movement in the Kherson region and then throughout Ukraine.
“We were introduced to this situation with the Kherson Soccer Club through Dennis Lukens, our contact in Ukraine and a good friend,” said Managing Director Steven R. Peacock. “Although time is short to raise the funds needed for the upcoming season, we are currently in discussions with certain energy oriented sponsors both on this side of the Atlantic and in England and Ukraine.”
