WATERBURY, Conn. - July 1, 2014 - PRLog -- The non-denominational, non-profit charitable organization Acts 4 Ministry in Waterbury, Conn. will host a fundraising basketball game outing on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. to watch the Connecticut Sun Women's basketball team face off against the Minnesota Lynx. Funds raised from this outing will help support Acts 4 Ministry’s annual “Back to School Drive” this August.

“Both teams include former UCONN Women's basketball players,” stated Sarah Elizabeth DiMeo, executive director of Acts 4 Ministry. “It will be a very exciting and distinctive fundraising opportunity. As a UCONN graduate, I believe this event will bring that same winning spirit into our Greater Waterbury community at large and our charitable organization. If there is enough interest, we hope to secure a bus to transport ticket-holders to the Mohegan Sun Arena.”

Special discount tickets for the July 27th game are being offered through Acts 4 Ministry. Tickets are $22/person and include free event parking, convenient on-line ordering, and at-home ticket printing. “Plus intense basketball action,” added the enthusiastic DiMeo. A portion of each ticket sold that references code “ACTS4” will be provided back to organization to help provide additional funds to their “Back to School” Drive. To purchase tickets, visit the events page at www.acts4.org.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a Waterbury area student to attend the July 27th game is welcome. Acts 4 Ministry’s ambition is to attract sponsors to secure tickets for Waterbury' students who have had a high attendance record for the 2013 to 2014 school year. DiMeo stated, “A donor just needs to go to our www.acts4.org website, click donate now and fill out the donation form and put in a special note to sponsor a child.”

Connecticut Sun fans unable to attend the July 27th game, and would like to meet two of team’s players, Acts 4 Ministry will host a “CT Sun Meet and Greet” fundraising reception in Waterbury on August 14 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 p.m. “Two players,” explained DiMeo, “will be at our building at 1713 Thomaston Avenue August 14 to hand-out school uniforms to area children. The reception will also feature a silent auction, light refreshments and live entertainment.

Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. is dedicated to building relationships with people while providing them with the basics of daily living needs. The organization strives to partner with churches, social service agencies, and public schools to help identify and serve people with these needs in the context of the broader community regardless of their faith, race, creed, or national origin, or their willingness to participate in religious activities.

The non-profit organization’s building at 1713 Thomaston Avenue houses a store environment where people with immediate ‘basic living needs’ can select clothing, furniture and household items. “Individuals or families who have suddenly lost their homes to a fire, flood or other unexpected devastation or upsetting life event can come here to personally select clothing, dishes, glassware, furnishings, and other basic needs at no charge,” explained DiMeo.

“These individuals and families are often referred to us by other charitable organizations. In our retail store environment, they are provided with an atmosphere which preserves their dignity and allows them to walk around our store to personally select what they need vs. being handed clothing or furnishings they do not desire. This is a respectful environment where everyone is treated with caring support.”

The Acts 4 Ministry retail store is also open to the general public on Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to purchase gently-used clothing, furniture and household goods.

As a further extension of their mission, Acts 4 Ministry hosts their annual “Back to School Drive.” DiMeo stated, “The intention is to ensure that children are properly clothed for the entire school year. Studies show that having the proper attire produces important peer-symmetry and helps prevent truancy. It also innately creates positive self-esteem and academic performance. For the 10th straight academic year, our organization is proud to serve the school uniform needs of children throughout the Greater Waterbury area.”
