LANSING, Mich. - July 1, 2014 - PRLog -- In May, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) announced that it had appointed Ulric Chung, MCS, Ph.D., as its new Chief Executive Officer. The announcement came after an extensive search to replace ABIH’s retiring Executive Director, Lynn O’Donnell, CIH.

Today, Dr. Chung assumes leadership of ABIH as the certifying organization continues to evolve to meet the needs of its Diplomates and the industries and governmental agencies that rely on the expertise and professionalism of Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs) across the globe.  Dr. Chung is tasked with continuing to grow the importance of the CIH credential and maintaining its exceptional reputation for excellence.

Dr. Chung’s comprehensive past experiences in accreditation and the management of non-profit agencies is a tremendous benefit to ABIH.  Before becoming ABIH’s new CEO, he provided his expertise as an accreditation and higher-education consultant.  Dr. Chung also served for five years as the Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). He also served as the Assistant Executive Director of Accreditation Evaluation and Research at the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).  Dr. Chung is a past Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and held several staff positions at the University of Illinois’ Urbana Campus.

“I proudly hand the torch to Dr. Chung as he takes the ABIH forward, building on what has already been accomplished over the past 54 years,” said Lynn O’Donnell.  “With Dr. Chung’s leadership, ABIH will continue to play a vital role in contributing to the overall growth of the industrial hygiene profession and communicating the value of certification for occupational health and safety professionals as the needs of industry, society and the regulatory environment continue to change and evolve.”
