Amicus Medical Group Takes Community Approach to Health Care
South Florida health care provider uses community events to focus on diabetes management, provide youth outreach, and promote healthy lifestyles.
“We are one of the newest organizations in the community that serves patients with VIP care without the VIP cost,” said David Rodriguez, Amicus president, who has more than 30 years of health care experience.
A Family Approach
Amicus is more than a traditional health care provider. The physicians and staff members want patients to feel like they’re at home. In fact, most of their visitors interact with staff members and physicians as if they were their own family members.
“We care for our patients, and we treat everyone equally,” said Tania A. Sanchez, Amicus’s director of marketing and patient relations. “And that’s why we do so much for our community to say ‘thank you’ for choosing us as their health care provider.”
In addition to accepting numerous types of insurance plans and offering primary care, podiatry, dermatology, and ultrasound services to patients, Amicus provides free homebound care to its senior members. By sending a registered nurse to a patient’s home, he or she receives preventive care and, thus, potentially avoiding expensive emergency room costs.
“We want to help adult children improve their parents’ lives, and our home care service is one way to accomplish this task in addition to offering traditional office visits,” said Rodriguez, who emphasizes the importance of caring for senior patients. “Ensuring your parents are regularly visiting their primary care doctors for simple check-ups can improve their lives, reduce unwanted future costs of caring for an aging mother or father, and greatly enhance the quality of your own lives.”
A Community Focus
Amicus focuses on more than basic health care by partnering with area faith-based and community organizations to hold free events throughout the year, including:
• Diabetes and nutrition seminars
• Senior health education classes
• Back-to-school supply giveaways
• Holiday toy drives
Additionally, each Amicus location hosts monthly celebrations for staff and community members. Staff members also recognize special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, by hosting parties for their neighbors and giving away complimentary gifts.
Furthermore, the Palm Beach location has an activity room where area residents are invited to take part in free activities such as bingo, ladies bridge games, educational seminars, Zumba classes, and arts and crafts.
Spreading the Word
To help keep area residents informed of upcoming Amicus events and happenings, the organization is finalizing its website as well as partnering with Amplification, Inc. (http://amplificationinc.com/
“We’re excited to partner with Amicus Medical Group and help spread their message to area residents,” said Steve Cabeza with Amplification. “Learning how to better manage our health and our family members’ health is crucial for leading happy lives, and Amicus has made this effort their priority.”
