SHORT HILLS, N.J.
- June 30, 2014
-- There aren't too many independently owned stores that have been around for more than 43 years. Rarer still are the Army and Navy stores of yesteryear. These stores ooze of history, mystery, and an endless supply of military and government surplus. "I love Army & Navy stores" says 1000 Mile U.S. distributor Paul Gill. "Growing up in England during the 70's I would spend countless hours in Army & Navy stores checking out items such as gas-masks (from the second World War) army boots, camping equipment. It was like a history lesson and time warp all wrapped in one. You never knew what you would find."
You'll be hard pressed to find a truly decent Army and Navy store these days, but if you happen to live in or around Short Hills, New Jersey, then you're in luck. Bills Army Navy Outdoors has been in its current location for over 25 years. Lee Lucas is the proprietor and has been at the helm of the store for over 20 years. In addition to carrying traditional Army & Navy gear, Lee also stocks a full array of outdoor, year-round products from water sports to camping to ski gear along with a host of technical, cutting edge products. And this is where 1000 Mile enters the picture. "I'm a sucker for new products, but they have to provide true value for my customer." Says Lee. He goes on to say "The 1000 Mile double layer sock appeals to me as we have a lot of hikers that use both a separate liner and outer sock. With 1000 Mile, you have two socks in one that are designed for specific foot sizes." Lee is no stranger to newfangled products. His was the third store in the nation to carry Vibram's Five Finger shoes when they first hit the market. "Bills Army Navy Outdoors is a quality store that has high reviews on both Yelp and Google which is no easy task" says Paul, who continues, "In Bills Army Navy Outdoors we have found a perfect partner to showcase both our 1000 Mile Sports and Outdoor Socks." Bills Army Navy Outdoors is an official reseller for 1000 Mile and will begin carrying 1000 Mile Socks in July 2014.
