Miami Beach Chocolates Now Offering Gluten-Free Products
Florida based, Kosher chocolatiers Miami Beach Chocolates are now offering products that are gluten free, an allergen that plagues about 20 million people in the United States.
"[We] did this so that even those with a gluten free diet, or intolerance could still enjoy chocolate treats," said Eli Schachter, Company Partner of Miami Beach Chocolates.
Gluten is a protein found in many kinds of grains, like bran, durum, and graham flour. Unfortunately, about 20 million people in the United States -- an estimated 6% to 7% of the U.S. population -- have a gluten sensitivity, according to Dr. Alessio Fasano, the director of the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research.
For people who have celiac disease, eating gluten can cause an immune reaction that harms their small intestines' lining. This damage in turn causes nutritional deficiencies, since most nutrients are absorbed through the lining of the small intestine. Even just a little bit of gluten will cause celiacs' immune systems to release antibodies that attack their intestines. If celiacs continue to consume foods that have gluten, they'll begin suffering from malnutrition -- and could even die -- because the body simply won't be able to survive without nutrients absorbed through the small intestines.
Others may have a non-celiac gluten sensitivity, which isn't quite as serious, but can still be problematic. A gluten-intolerance can cause indigestion, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Although there's no cure for celiac disease or gluten-intolerance, the problems can be avoided with a gluten-free diet. Since gluten is found in many kinds of grain, though, such a diet means having to abstain from sweet treats, like cakes, cookies, and chocolates.
Besides these new additions, Miami Beach Chocolates also has dairy-free products, for those who follow a vegan diet or are lactose intolerant. Each of the company's truffles, ganaches, clusters, and dipped fruits are gluten free. Plus, their chocolates can be made either vegan or dairy.
Thankfully, those who have to abstain from gluten can now satisfy their cravings for sweetness, thanks to Miami Beach Chocolates.
To celebrate new addition of vegan chocolate covered cookies, Miami Beach Chocolates is offering a free ganache for a limited time to anyone who snaps a pictures of their business, tags it appropriately, and puts it on their Instagram. Hungry patrons can also mention this press release for a free ganache, too.
