LONDON - June 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Taken from their recent survey: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Experience (COPE), results showed that nearly 60% of COPD patients reported that they did not have an action plan for dealing with a flare-up and an additional 16% did not know what an exacerbation was at all. *Source

Get the patients perspective and hear more from the COPD Foundation when patient and caregiver representatives of the foundation and EFFORTS Online Support Group, present their side at COPD 2014 taking place on 20th and 21st October in London UK.

With a focus on patient care, Jim & Mary Nelson will be sharing their story in a unique presentation entitled: Lung disease from the other side. Lack of awareness and the vital role of guidance and compliance will be just some of the topics addressed in the joint keynote address. Click here for further details.

In a recent statement made to SMi Group, Jim & Mary Nelson said:

"The diagnosis of severe COPD brought about a "new normal" for both of us.  Nothing would ever be the same for the patient or for the caregiver.  We could have chosen to go home, sit down, and wait for death.  Instead, we chose to learn, to fight, and to work toward life.  Our journey took us to the possibility, then to the reality of lung transplant.

Since then, we have mentored hundreds of patients, caregivers and medical professionals and worked with lung health organizations and lawmakers in our attempts to pay back, to help others on their journey.  We lend a viewpoint and knowledge that is available only from someone who has lived it."

COPD 2014 will include sessions on regulation, comorbidities, ensuring a successful clinical trial design and challenges in drug development and market access.

Other speakers will include:

•          Marcello Milano, Executive Global Regulatory Affairs, Chiesi

•          Thomas Schlange, Senior Biomarker Expert, Bayer
