GATES AWARDED CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT CONTRACT FOR
ALTAIR / HENDRY COUNTY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION
Southwest Florida, June 24, 2014 - GATES Construction (www.GATESinc.com)
Brian and Michelle Jones, the owners of Blue Spoon, LLC and ALTAIR Training Solutions, Inc. are purchasing the Hendry Correctional Institution from the State of Florida with plans to expand current business operations into Hendry County. The Hendry prison, which was built in 1977, closed in 2011. Plans call for demolition, renovation and new construction throughout the 1,100 acre site.
ALTAIR Training Solutions, Inc. is Service-Disabled Veteran Owned and Operated Business that opened in 2012. As a retired Sergeant Major with a special operations background, CEO Brian Jones founded ALTAIR to provide training solutions for military and government specialized teams. The CEO, leaders, and trainers at ALTAIR understand the importance of staying abreast of technology and creating innovative training packages.
“We’ve been working on this project for several months with Gregg Gillman, President of Hendry County Economic Development Council and other key organizations in Hendry County, and are extremely pleased with the support we’ve received. This project will create over 150 jobs in the next few years and will have an extremely positive economic impact on Hendry County and Florida as a whole,” said Brian Jones, owner of ALTAIR.
Gillman is adamant that the key to the success of this project thus far has been the collaborative effort from the County Administration and Commissioners along with support from Representative Matt Hudson at the state level, working alongside the EDC. "These projects take a lot of stamina and the only way to create successful economic development projects is to remain committed through all the obstacles that naturally arise during the site selection process."
Todd Gates, Chairman of GATES said, “On behalf of the GATES organization, we are extremely proud to be selected as the Construction Manager. It’s an ideal site perfectly suited to accommodate this very unique project. When the prison closed several years ago, many nearby local businesses suffered. Bringing activity back to the area will benefit many nearby neighboring communities. Additionally the project will bring new purpose to the long abandoned site. To be associated with ALTAIR's leadership and mission, and have the opportunity to work with visionaries such as Brian and Michelle is both humbling and an honor.”
“We are truly excited to work with ALTAIR to further our strategic goal of diversifying the Hendry County economy. The multitude of opportunities an organization like ALTAIR brings to our community is amazing,” states Charles Chapman, County Administrator.
