CloudHarmony report shows CacheFly dominates in global CDN throughput

CHICAGO - June 23, 2014 - PRLog -- CloudHarmony, a cloud performance provider, today announced results of its “Cloud Speedtest,” summarizing overall latency and throughput performance of major CDN providers from 2011-2014, capturing results from over 20M CDN tests from 5.1M unique users on 27,000 different ISPs.

The report found CacheFly as the #1 CDN in overall throughput performance for both small file and large file throughput. CacheFly ranked highest among all major CDNs in 2014 for both small and large file throughput in North America, Asia, Oceania and Europe; small file throughput delivery in South America, and large file throughput delivery in Africa.

“Our entire platform has always been built around delivering our customers the highest possible throughput – seeing the results over such a long term study is very gratifying, and validates all the work our team does on a daily basis to optimize throughput,” said Founder and CTO of CacheFly, Matt Levine.  “The amount and quality of the data that CloudHarmony has gathered is really impressive – they’re committed to offering the best cloud benchmarks and it shows.”

CloudHarmony created the cloud speedtest to measure network performance between real users and cloud services. The speedtest runs in a browser and provides users with latency as well as small and large file throughput measurements for all major CDNs. CloudHarmony routinely summarizes results from these tests by region using Maxmind IP intelligence databases which provide details about user location and ISP. The CloudHarmony blog post http://blog.cloudharmony.com/2014/06/cdn-performance-2011-2014.html includes nearly 4 years of such summarized analysis.

“We created the cloud speedtest because we think the most important feature of a CDN is how fast it gets content to users. Measuring this is challenging, however, because there are thousands of ISPs each with unique and continually changing network performance capabilities. The speedtest allows us to summarize CDN performance regionally using data from millions of real users and thousands of ISPs globally,” said CloudHarmony founder, Jason Read.
