As one of the world’s most influential men in fashion, Wilkes Bashford has been a fixture on Esquire’s “International Best Dressed List” since 1972. He is the first retailer to bring many top designers from Italy, including Giorgio Armani, into the United States, has set the stage for men’s fashion in Northern California and is part of San Francisco’s “local fabric.” Wilkes continues to be a trailblazer and style trendsetter in San Francisco and is well deserving of this award.
Fashion On The Square is known for the blending the fashion and art and there is always high anticipation of the experience both on and off the runway. San Francisco's Ballerina Doll Ms. Caroline Rocher, a verteran with Alonzo King LINES Ballet returns for a third year in response to the high demand for her presence and FOTS is very excited to have visual artist Kristine Mays who is known for 'breathing life into wire'.
A partial list of sponsors and supporters include The W Hotel San Francisco, 510 Media, theREGISTRYBayArea.com, FashionXChange Magazine, Fairmont Hotel, MoAD Vanguard, Imagine Affairs, Mandarin Hotel, Talbot Teas, Vera Bradley and the Olive Street Agency.
FOTS+TheArts, formed in 2012, is a non-profit organization that gives grants and scholarships to students in the fashion industry who blend fashion and the arts in their work, whether it’s on the runway or in a visual representation. The organization will be giving its first scholarship to a student at FOTS 2013 on August 18th. In the spirit of blending fashion and art and back by popular demand, ballerina Caroline Rocher, from Alonzo King LINES Ballet, will grace the runway with a performance during the runway show. Ms. Rocher’s performance at FOTS 2009 was very highly received and the requests for her return continue to this day.
About Fashion On The Square
Fashion On The Square is one of the largest and longest running charity fashion shows on the West Coast and the most sought after and anticipated fashion event in San Francisco. FOTS began 10 years ago as a one-day show outdoors in the middle of Union Square to now a WEEK of events throughout the Bay Area. Designers have traveled as far as Africa to be a part of FOTS and they have included Colleen Quen, B Michael, Joseph Domingo, Chris March, Jennifer Blue, Virgil Ortiz, Oligo Tissew, Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker, M Movement, Dark Garden, Roc Rio, and many many more. Each year FOTS supports fashion design students by allowing them to show on the runway. Many schools have participated including The Academy of Art University, FIDM, The Art Institute San Francisco, Alameda College and others. Over the last 4 years FOTS has ‘changed the game’ of the runway fashion show experience in San Francisco by infusing arts on the runway from ballerinas (Alonzo King LINES Ballet) to string quarters collaborating with designers to create a magical experience.
