Seminole County YR’s Host a Candidate Hob Nob and Straw Poll

ORLANDO, Fla. - June 18, 2014 - PRLog -- On June 17, 2014, the Seminole County Young Professional Republicans hosted their Candidate Hob Nob and Straw Poll at the Longwood Community Building.  The event drew well over 200 people, and Supervisor of Elections Mike Ertel, who hosted the straw poll, said it was the largest turnout he had seen for a YR straw poll.

The Straw Poll featured contested primary races for offices in Congressional Districts 5 and 7 and State House District 30. In CD 5, the crowd voted Thuy Lowe as their pick. John Mica edged out five other candidates to take the top spot in District 7, where he is the incumbent. In State House District 30, Bob Cortes won over the Longwood Community Center. The Hob Nob and Straw Poll was a fundraising event for the Seminole County Young Professional Republicans, a local group of young professionals between 18 and 40 years old. Over the last year, the YR’s have been involved in special election efforts around the state as well as participate in events for charities and other organizations. The club is chartered by the Florida Federation of Young Republicans. Last year, the FFYR recognized the Seminole County YR’s with their GOTV Award and named them Club of the Year for their efforts.
