SAN FRANCISCO - June 17, 2014 - PRLog -- San Francisco Event Venes, or SF Event Venues, announces their recent collaboration with Treasure Island Homless Development Initiative (TIHDI, pronounced “tie-dye”) and Toolworks to support one of Treasure Island’s key initiatives – the initiative to employ formerly homeless and/or economically disadvantaged San Franciscans.

The collaboration was developed by the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA), which consented to having its event venues managed by this third party collaborative and with the Treasure Island Community Development (TICD). The strategic collaboration stemmed through past successes that Toolworks and SF Event Venues has achieved working with TIHDI. Toolworks and TIHDI have worked together in the past to give individuals the necessary skills to succeed in the workplace through Toolworks’ job training program.

SF Event Venues has employed a number of individuals through Toolworks and TIHDI in one of their spaces, The Winery San Francisco. The Winery San Francisco and its Winemaker, Bryan Kane, received a Certificate of Honor from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for this work that the winery has done to support the Fair Chance Act, an ordinance signed by the mayor earlier this year.

As a former military base, Treasure Island is required to conduct homeless outreach for the City of San Francisco to get the approval for Treasure Island’s redevelopment plans, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In fact, homeless outreach is part of the realignment of every closed military base by federal law. On Treasure Island, this requirement is lead locally by TIHDI and will remain a part of the island’s requirements under the HUD during redevelopment and beyond.

“We are excited to partner with SF Event Venues and Toolworks to create pathways to economic self-sufficiency for low income and formerly homeless families, adults and veterans, today and in the future on Treasure Island,” states Sherry Williams, Executive Director of TIHDI. “This collaboration will be the cornerstone for the success of the TIHDI program in San Francisco.”
