RAPEX Annual Report 2013: Increased Notifications on Dangerous Products in Europe

RAPEX is the rapid alert system for dangerous products with the exception of food, pharmaceutical and medical devices within the European Member States and the EFTA/EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).
AIX EN PROVENCE, France - June 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Constant Increase of Dangerous Products Notifications

2013 is the 10-year anniversary of RAPEX. With the exception of 2011, the number of RAPEX notifications has steadily increased since its creation.

The 10-years trend of notifications between 2003 and 2013 is summarized in Figure 1 within the latest SafeGuards bulletin (http://newsletter.sgs.com/eNewsletterPro/uploadedimages/000006/sgs-safeguards-10514-eu-rapex-annual-2013-notifications-dangerous-products-a4-en-14.pdf).

In 2013, 2,364 products presenting a risk to the health and safety of consumers were reported through the RAPEX, which corresponds to a 3.8% rise in dangerous products notifications.

RAPEX Report – Most Notified Product Categories

The most notified product categories (Figure 2) and risk categories (Figure 3) have also been the five top product and risks categories in the Rapex in previous years. This is explained by the high volumes of consumption and supply of these products, which increase the chances of finding dangerous products. Most dangerous products and most vulnerable consumers are also focused on by national authorities’ market surveillance.

The Top 5 notifies product categories and Top 5 notified types of risks in 2013 as compared to 2012 are summarized in Figures 2 and 3 within the latest SafeGuards bulletin (http://newsletter.sgs.com/eNewsletterPro/uploadedimages/0...).
